Management Team

The Management Team is made up of the following staff members who all report to the Chief Executive - Sue Fitzmaurice.


 

Sue Fitzmaurice - Chief Executive

Sue joined Sfrito in October 2007.  She has nearly 20 years in business and executive management and a background in consulting in various parts of the tertiary education sector, including within the ITO sector, as well as in the not-for-profit & community sectors, ICT, minerals exploration and the medical industry.

Sue has a first class honours degree in political science from the University of Canterbury and a Masters in Business from Massey University.  She is also a registered nurse.

In her spare time, Sue hangs out with her kids, kayaks, caf←s (is that a verb?), and does not cook, sew or garden.  She has almost finished writing her first novel, a semi-fantasy about two autistic children, which aims to provoke some thought on what might really be going on inside these children’s unique minds.

Courtenay Suppinger – PA to Chief Executive 

Courtenay joined Sfrito in 2005 and works as Personal Assistant across the Sfrito senior management and administration teams to support the responsibilities of the Chief Executive and Board. 

She has more than 15 years experience in a variety of Administration roles within small, medium and large companies and is familiar with employment environments ranging from research and advertising, to power, oil and transport.

Paul Richards – Manager, Outdoor Recreation & Snowsport

Paul joined Sfrito in early 2007 from a background in outdoor recreation in the UK.  Paul is responsible for the ongoing development of Sfrito’s Outdoor Recreation strategy, and in particular the aligning of qualification across the Outdoor Rec sector.

He has a background in education outside of the classroom.  He was Operations Manager for the UK ‘s largest adventure education provider as well as manager of a very successful field studies centre. 

He remains a keen practitioner of outdoor recreation and you will often see him on Makra peak on his bike or playing in the waves at Plimmerton on a windsurf board.

 

Laura Cooper – Finance Manager

Laura joined Sfrito in mid 2006 after a two year stint working and living around the UK.  She is responsible for the finance department at Sfrito (and pushing the drinks trolley around on Friday afternoons). 

Laura has a BCA with a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Accountancy from Victoria University of Wellington and will complete her CA requirements in late 2008.
Ron Taukamo – Kaihautu, Nga Mahi a Te Rehia

Iwi: Ngati Porou, Ue Pohatu, Te Rarawa; Hapk: Te Whanau a Hinetpora

Ron joined Sfrito in August 2006.  His role is to further develop and implement Sfrito’s Ng Mahi a Te Rhia marae-based strategy and direction across Sfrito’s several sport, fitness and recreation sectors and within the organisation. 

He has a background in business, with 15 years self employed in the retail sector and 12 years in education and training. Ron came to Sfrito having completed three years as Mori Training Advisor for Tourism at ATTTO (Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation).

Tony McKenna – Northern regional manager; Community Recreation strategy leader

Tony joined Sfrito in 2002 in a business development role, moving to Team Leader for Community Recreation and from the beginning of 2008 to Northern Regional Manager.

Tony has a background in education starting as a secondary teacher, before management roles in tertiary education.  He has a passion for on-job training and development and seeing organisations grow the capability of their staff.  He is also actively involved in recreation through tennis, golf and pretending to surf.

 

Andre Whittaker – Central & Southern regional manager

Andre joined Sfrito in January 2008.  He is a keen sportsman, involved in rugby league and currently involved with Waka Ama Outrigger Canoe Paddling.

He has a background in field sales in several industries, most recently as a Regional Field Sales Manager with Frucor Beverages and prior to that Area Sales Manager with DB Breweries.

People development and associated community development are key drivers for Andre.  He enjoys the gym, paddling and staying active.

Tony Roddan – Business Development Manager

Tony joined Sfrito in July 2007.   
His background includes owning / directing  private businesses, business training and consultancy and management of a large community owned swimming and indoor recreation facility. 

 Tony is responsible for managing the relationships with key stakeholder organisations, large workplaces as well as overseeing the sector advisory groups and a business development role.

 A social swimmer that competes you will often find him in the water or in the gym

Leona van der Heyden – Business Manager

Leona returned to Sfrito in January 2008 after 10 years away, and following several years with InfraTrain, the infrastructure ITO. 

Leona manages all new unit standard, qualification and resource development, and the development of all of Sfrito’s administration functions and the vitally important quality assurance functions.
