Sfrito is the Industry Training Organisation responsible for the Sport, Fitness, Community Recreation, Snowsport, Outdoor Recreation and Nga Mahi a te Rehia sectors.
Sfrito's role within these sectors is to:
- set skill standards and qualifications
- arrange for the delivery of workplace learning and training
- provide industry leadership by identifying skill needs, developing strategic training plans, and promoting learning that meets industry needs.
ITOs are industry bodies recognised by the government under the Industry Training Act 1992, legislation designed to raise New Zealanders’ levels of skill. ITOs do not deliver workplace learning and training themselves - they work with employers and learners to develop arrangements for education and training that fit their needs. Learning can take place on-the-job in the workplace, or off-the-job at a tertiary education provider, such as an Institute of Technology, Polytechnic or Private Training Establishment (PTE).
Sfrito is a charitable company. The Chief Executive reports to a Board elected by the shareholders. The shareholders in Sfrito are approximately 40 industry umbrella bodies. 50% of the shareholding is held by Maori organisations.
